Murudeshwar Beach

Murudeshwar Beach is situated 180 km from Mangalore, 1 km off the National Highway in between Honnavar and Bhatkal of Karnataka. It is one of the loveliest beaches of South India. After a visit to the famous Murudeshwar temple, a visit to the beach is a wonderful experience. This beach provides a stunning view of the adjacent magnificent statue of Lord Murudeshwara temple. 

This temple is a natural wonder with aesthetically carved designs. It is believed that this place has been sanctified by a piece of the Pranalinga of Mahabaleshwara thrown by Ravana. Murudeshwar is bounded by the shimmering sea and rolling hills, and has some beautiful carvings and statues. The huge statue of Lord Shiva is itself a great tourist attraction. 

This is a favorite picnic spot to the locals. 

Attractions of Murudeshwar Beach

a. Murudeshwar temple, situated 16 kms from Bhatkal, Murudeshwar attracts a lot of devotees and tourists. It has an enchanting view with the roaring sea to the West, the towering hills to the East and the coconut groves nearby.

b. Two life-size elephants in concrete stand guard at the steps leading to this ancient temple. 

c. You can also watch some of the quaint rituals like Bhuta worship, the Kambala (buffalo race) and Korikatta - the cock fight. 

d. Kanduka Giri Hill

e. Fort - There is also a huge fort behind the temple said to have been renovated by Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore.

f. Mouth-watering delicacies of coastal Karnataka, spicy fish curries, variety of fruits and cashews.
