Kozhikode India was previously known as Calicut. It is the third largest city in Kerala State, South India, situated on the Arabian coast. Kozhikode India occupies an important position in Indian history, as the Portuguese Traveler Vasco da Gama landed at Kappad, 16 kms north of the city in 1498, discovering the sea route to India. This marked the beginning of European powers in the culture-rich country.
Located 10 kms south of the city, at the mouth of River Chaliyar is Beypore. It is one of the port towns and fishing harbours of ancient Kerala. It is famous for its ship building yard and traditional ship builders in Calicut Kerala India.
Dolphin's point
Located 2 kms from Kozhikode town centre is the beautiful beach where one can see dolphins playing in the early hoursof morning. The beach has an old light house, Lions Park and the Marine Water Aquarium.
Kappad Beach in Kozhikode India
Vasco da Gama first landed at Kappad in 1498. A monument is here commemorating the historic event. Kappad is 16 kms away. There is also an ancient temple on a hillock overlooking the sea at this rock studded beach. This beach is locally known as Kappakadavu.

Pazhassi Raja Museum

Adjacent to this museum is the Art Gallery and Krishna Menon Museum where paintings of Raja Ravi Varma and Raja Raja Varma are displayed. The gifts and soveniers of the great Indian, V.K. Krishna Menon are also stored in Krishna Menon Museum.
Badagara
Located 48 kms from Kozhikode, this ancient town is famous for Kalari Payattu. It is a great commercial centre formartial arts. This historic town is also the birth place of Tacholi Othenan, the hero of ballads of North Malabar. The visitors who come to see Calicut attractions visit this place.
Cheliya
Kathakali Vidhyalayam is situated here. It is a training centre for Kathakali dance.
Kuttiyadi Hydro electric power project is located 70 kms away.
Tusharagiri
This famous trekking track is located 50 kms from Kozhikode, near Vythiri. The evergreen dense forests are populated with exotic birds and wild animals.

Backwater of Calicut

Peruvannamuzhi Dam is a dam site with boating, crocodile and bird sanctuary, situated 60kms away from the main town.
