Karnataka Obbattu
Karnataka Obbattu is also called as Karnataka Holige andPuran Poli. This is a special sweet dish of Karnataka and made for many of the festivals.
Ingredients required
Chana dal- 1 cupJaggery - 300gmCardamom powder - 1 tspMaida/Plain flour - 1 1/2 cupsTurmeric powder - a pinchWheat sooji(rava) - 2 tspOil - 1 tspGhee - 3 tspSalt - a pinch
Preparation
Mix maida with salt, turmeric powder, sooji rawa, water and oil, and make a dough.Cover it and keep aside.Cook channa dal and grind it.Make jaggery syrup adding little water and mix the dal well.Add ghee and remove from stove.Add cardamom powder and mix well.Make small balls with the mixture and keep aside.Make small balls with maida mixture, of the same size.Spread the maida ball into a chapathi and kee the dal mixture ball in the centre, cover the edges.Roll it like a chapathi in a plastic paper, slowly and carefully.Keep the tawa on the stove, and when heated cook the obbattu both sides spreading little ghee.When both the sides of the obbattu are cooked golden brown color, remove it from the stove. Cook all the balls like this.Obbattu (Holige) or Puran poli is ready. Serve hot.
