Sri Banashankari Temple Bangalore is located on the busy Kanakapura Road, near BMTC Bus Stand. It is one of the most popular temples of Bangalore, and also the richest temple of Bangalore.
The presiding deity in the temple is Goddess Banashankari who is believed to be the remover of hardships and poverty. The uniqueness of this temple is Sri Banashankari Amma is worshipped in Rahukala, an inauspicious time according to Hindu belief. Devotees of this temple believe that by worshipping the goddess Banashankari Amma in Rahukala, one's hardships and poverty will be removed.
The temple is open on all days. But the special days are Tuesday, Fridays and Sundays.
The goddess is worshipped by lighting multiple oil lamps in half cut lemon peels with the pulp removed.
This temple was started in 1913 by a devotee named Somanna Shetty who installed a deity of Banashankari Amma brought all the way from Badami.
